Aurum Lounge (915 Peachtree Street Atlanta, GA 30309) 3/10/12

Aurum Lounge 3/10/12

It has taken me FOREVER to post this review of my fun and fabulous night at Aurum on Saturday (3/10/12).  As more and more time passed without me posting it, I concluded that I should just drop it because maybe it was no longer relevant. But let me say this: Aurum on 3/10/12 is not only relevant but unforgettable!!
OMG…..where do I begin? Well let’s start with the incredible décor. There are more than a few things that make this relatively small spot surprisingly swanky and esthetically pleasing. When you enter the lounge, the bar area is straight ahead and immediately grabs your attention because a colossal projector television screen hangs directly above it. And it’s not just the size of the screen that grabs your attention (easily 100 to 200 inches or more), but rather the way the screen is displayed. It is enclosed in an ornate gold frame like the type you would expect to see around a Picasso or Renoir……absolutely gorgeous and unexpected. This same theme is carried over to the left of the bar area where you find this same type of beautiful frame, positioned vertically around the D.J. booth. So when the D.J. is playing, he is displayed in a frame as a work of art; and work of art he was on Saturday!!!!! Another elegant touch is the décor of the VIP section located to the far right of the entrance. It is slightly elevated and consists of approximately five large sections which extend from the entrance to the rear of the lounge. Each section is separated by fabulous drapes and is furnished with gold leather “U” shaped, sectional style couches and a glass cocktail table for your bottles; very sleek and sophisticated indeed.
The ambiance was incredible as well.
You could tell that a lot of thought and effort went into creating a certain whimsical but sexy environment. First of all, the annual Victoria Secret’s fashion show was playing on the huge projector which of course features the world’s most beautiful models strutting down the runway in angel wings. Well, Lloyd (the club’s owner) had his own angels (sexy wing adorned beauties) walking around the club offering complimentary chocolates and champagne to the guests all night. If that small treat didn’t satisfy your sweet tooth, there was also a complimentary chocolate bar set up in the rear of the club. The chocolate bar featured such delectable items as a running chocolate fountain, strawberries and other fresh fruits for dipping, petite cupcakes and various gourmet chocolates and other scrumptious treats. It was truly indulgent and a very classy touch.
Last but certainly not least, is the crowd and the music. Both were on point. First of all, the place was PACKED. And not just packed with any old generic bunch; this bunch provided some serious eye candy. They were right in line with the evening’s “candy” theme. I wonder if that was a prerequisite for getting in!! There was a wide array of ages, so no matter what your age, you could feel comfortable dancing and socializing. The music reflected and accommodated this variation in ages and tastes very well. Three words for the music: OFF the CHAIN!!! I don’t know who the DJ was, but I certainly intend to find out because when I tell you he ripped it up…….believe me!! He accommodated the musical palates of every person in attendance with selections from every genre imaginable. He played hip hop, R & B, reggae, techno, international music, salsa and some types of music I can’t even name. Now lest you think that you wouldn’t have enjoyed that wide of an array of tunes because you’re more of a hip hop girl or guy like myself, don’t worry. The DJ was a BEAST. Some kind of way, he managed to choose the best music from each genre. If you don’t know yet, I am a Hip Hop / R & B girl so I have to shout out some of my faves played that night: Drake, Wayne, Biggie, Lil’ Kim (before she turned herself into Madame from Solid Gold; if you’re too young to get that one, go ask your mama), Jr. Mafia, Rhianna.  I had some old school Hip Hop faves as well: Sugar Hill Gang, Rob Base, Chubb Rock……and the list goes on. I think you get the picture though.
So if you haven’t had the chance to check out Aurum, you need to get there. Quite a few birthdays were being celebrated when I was there; Lloyd, the club’s owner was celebrating his, as well as another friend of mine, Cornell. They were both popping bottles and taking care of their guests and friends who came out to help them celebrate. The set up makes it a great spot to host or celebrate a birthday and I highly recommend it for that or just to hang out. I’m actually taking my own advice and celebrating my favorite “cousin, sister, bff’s” birthday there on Saturday March 24th. She’s coming all the way from New Jersey to celebrate ATL style and we definitely plan to “get it in.” So come out on the 24th and show her how we do it down here in the “A.”
