Weekend Review: Friday June 22, 2012

Weekend Review: Friday June 22, 2012

I haven’t posted a review of where I’ve been hanging out in Atlanta in a minute so I decided to do that today. This was the perfect weekend to start because Friday night was BANANAS!!!

I hung out with Miguel of Miguel Wilson Menswear and a few of his NFL clients.  Miguel is very well connected and knows the right people at every spot in the city so a night on the town with him is always fabulous. Add in some of the NFL elite, and I knew we’d be ballin’.

We started the night at Vanquish at around 7:30 pm.  I was pleasantly surprised to see that they have a very sexy happy hour. There was a nice mixture of men and women and a pretty decent age spread; so if you were between the ages of 25 and 50, you were good. Some men had on jeans and slip-ons, but most were a little more dressed for a Friday on the town.  The ladies went for sexy as usual. Dresses, pencil and band-aid skirts or anything showing a lot of skin and curves was the look of the night.

The happy hour featured a complimentary buffet of hors d’oeuvres and included some of the best jerk chicken wings I’ve ever tasted! It also featured some truly special drink specials. For $5.00, I drank a cocktail of vodka, cranberry and pineapple juice that was mixed way on the strong side. I had to keep asking for more juice; easy to see the value there. The band that used to perform at Justin’s on Friday nights took the stage around 8:00 and did what they do: rocked it. Unfortunately, Justins shut down recently but if you want to still keep your Friday night vibe going and support Q and his band, come see them at Vanquish.

We left Vanquish and went over to the bar at the Loews Hotel which is just a short walk. The bar had a clientele that seemed to consist of hotel guests, an after work crowd and bar hoppers; all very tasteful and attractive. The location makes it a great place to bar hop because it’s in walking distance of all the clubs and restaurants mentioned in this post. So if you want to give out of town guests a full dose of ATL and try to hit numerous spots in one night, park across the street from the Loews in the event parking lot, hit their bar and then keep it moving.  Here, we met up with a few other NFL players in town for the weekend, ordered more cocktails and then made our way to STK.

STK is a fairly new addition to the “A.”  I guess it’s best described as an upscale steak house / lounge.  It is very trendy and stylish with a dark and intimate  décor that makes it the perfect place to either take a date you’re trying to impress.....or seduce (very sexy), or to meet friends for drinks.
STK

In true Football player fashion, our guests ordered large, succulent steaks topped with lobster. They looked amazing! I didn’t eat this time but I will definitely try one of their excellent cuts of beef next time I’m there. Fortunately, the cocktails and entertainment were enough. The restaurant features a DJ who played a variety of 80’s music (I walked in to the sounds of Whitney Houston); sounds corny, but it was actually cool. Not into 80’s music? He also played current      R & B which made for a nice mix. From the looks of the dance floor, the clientele liked his play list. After spending a respectable amount of time at STK, we headed down the block to Reign Night Club.

Reign Night Club was live!! It probably helped that we had a VIP booth and several bottles of everything!!! It was packed and the music was excellent: old school rap and hip hop mixed in with the new stuff that you love too. The DJ did an excellent job of keeping the crowd engaged and hype. We had a blast. Miguel and I started feeling our age around 2 am and had to bid our “crew for the night” farewell. They were just getting started!!

After all that drinking, we wanted……….you guessed it: FOOD! But of course the age old dilemma of where can you get food after midnight came into play. But it didn’t last long because Atlanta is full of late night diners and other specialty eateries that cater to the late night appetites of club hoppers.  We made our way back to Buckhead and sat on the huge patio of Felini’s.  Felini’s is a pizzeria with several locations around Atlanta. They feature New York style, thin crust pizza with a wide variety of fresh toppings. You can buy it by the slice or the whole pie. It is always fresh, excellently seasoned and delicious.  It was just the thing the doctor ordered after a night of clubbing and indulging. Gotta feed your liquor!!

So People, that was my weekend all in one night. Atlanta is a fabulous city with an endless source of cool places to hang out  so take advantage of it. I’m delighted to be able to share my experiences and recommend places to you that I enjoyed. Be sure to check out Vanquish, STK, Reign and the bar at the Loews next Friday and let them know that Felicia from Lounge Around Atlanta sent you!
